November 22, 1999: Arnold NOT in upcoming "T"s

In an recent press conference promoting "End of Days", Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed he will NOT be appearing in the upcoming third and fourth "Terminator" movies currently in script stage. In last week's announcement, Producer Mario Kassar said "I'd love for Arnold to be in it, but we're not at that point yet".
Now in the conference, Arnie revealed that seeing as Director James Cameron has sworn off the project, so has he - "I have no intention of doing it except when Jim Cameron does the directing, or the producing, or writing... Jim Cameron has to be involved in one way or another".

November 15, 1999: "Terminator 3" and "... 4"

November 11 Daily Variety's Michael Fleming reported the following:

'T2' times two
NEW YORK - If Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna have their way, the Terminator’s signature line will be slightly altered to: "I’ll be back-to-back."
More than two years after spending $8 million to buy the underlying rights of the "Terminator" franchise in the Carolco Pictures bankruptcy auction, Kassar and Vajna have baptized their C-2 Pictures banner by formalizing plans to simultaneously develop the third and fourth installments of the "Terminator" film series.
They intend to film "Terminator 3" next year for release in 2001 and prep the fourth shortly thereafter. At the same time, they expect to broaden the franchise with deals involving Internet and interactive companies that have sparked to the notion of continuing the franchise.
Kassar and Vajna plan to make the films whether or not Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the cyborg he played in the first two installments, and despite the fact James Cameron, who co-wrote the original with Gale Anne Hurd and directed both installments, has said that he will not return.
C-2 has not only hired two screenwriters, but it has also hired former United Artists creative executive James Middleton as senior vice president whose sole role is to spearhead the development of the two scripts and have them ready by next spring. At that time, C-2 will either set them up to be financed with a domestic studio or raise the financing independently in the foreign marketplace. Middleton becomes the fourth executive at C-2, which is based in the graffiti-covered Santa Monica headquarters that once housed Vajna’s Cinergi. Kassar and Vajna run the company along with production head Joel Michaels, a longtime ally of the duo who ran Kassar’s company at Paramount and who produced such films as "Lolita", "Stargate" and "Universal Soldier."
"Terminator 3" will be written by Tedi Sarafian, who wrote the MGM film "Metalheads," while "Terminator 4" will be written by David Wilson, whose credits include the upcoming UA sci-fi film "Supernova" and the "Rollerball" remake at MGM. Sarafian was repped by Jeff Field and attorney Peter Nichols, while Wilson was repped by ICM’s Todd Feldman and Doug McClaren.
The move by Kassar and Vajna is the latest twist to capitalize on the success of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," which grossed more than $500 million worldwide and spawned a hugely popular 3-D attraction at the Orlando, Fla., and L.A. Universal Studios theme parks.
The project has been the source of many rumors, going back to the bankruptcy auction. At that time, Cameron and Schwarzenegger were believed to be interested in reteaming on a third film at Fox until Kassar and Vajna swooped in to buy the half share of the rights that wasn’t owned by Hurd.
Kassar and Vajna have bought Hurd’s half of the film, and a Fox deal again seemed imminent, but again faltered as Kassar and Vajna brought in Japan-based Toho as an investor. More rumors surfaced that Universal would develop the property. Kassar, known as a risk taker, said C-2 decided rather than worry about which creatives and studios are in or out, it would be better to just solidify concepts and scripts first.
"I don’t know if you can ever equal the first two films, because James Cameron is a genius, but we’re going to do our best, use the best special effects houses, and really surprise people with the creative stories that are great and have the twists and turns the audience expects," said Kassar, who produced and financed "Terminator 2" at Carolco after acquiring the rights from Hemdale.
"I think we’re on the right course, and I know there has been all this curiosity, people wondering if Mario and Andy would be at Fox or someplace else. There were a lot of negotiations going on and some studios wanted this, others wanted that. We said, that’s great, but we went into this to make this movie and revitalize the franchise, and finally said, let’s just get started. We wrote the checks, let’s proceed. I feel very confident.
"And remember that ‘T2’ was much the same. Being an indie, Carolco was under the microscope, and people said it was on course to be the most expensive movie and it would put Carolco out of business. Looking back, it was worth every risk, and I don’t know anybody who lost money on it. Everybody made a lot of money on it."
Kassar still holds out hope that Schwarzenegger might return. "I’d love for Arnold to be in it, but we’re not at that point yet," Kassar said.
A call to Schwarzenegger’s William Morris agent Robert Stein elicited only a firm "I won’t discuss Arnold or any other client’s business in the press."
Michaels and Middleton said their concern is to carry on the themes Cameron fleshed out in the first two films.
"The first two movies offer an excellent road map for sequels which respect what James Cameron created, and we want to emulate the themes and elements of the first two movies," Michaels said.
One major difference: whereas "T2" ended peacefully, there will be a war in the third film.
" ‘T3’ will be present-day, 2001, about the first engagement between Skynet and humans, and be about the beginning of the war," Middleton said. "The fourth movie is going to be set in the future, after the nuclear conflagration has ended. The setting will be that apocalyptic world you saw in both of the first two films. The third will lead you into the fourth, and John Connor will be the lead in both of those movies, which follow and expend his character. There will be a protector Terminator, and an antagonist machine."

Gee, unbelievable: Arnold IS 'The' Terminator, Cameron IS "T"s creator and Linda IS Sarah Connor! Who might be interested in another "T" movie without any of them? Ridiculous!

November 2, 1999: "The Secret Life Of Girls"

October 26 we received the following email from someone else at Overseas Film Group:

Well, we'll have to wait and see what finally will happen: theatrial or video release.

November 2, 1999: Arnold Schwarzenegger on "Terminator 3"

Arnold Schwarzenegger did a chat on AOL the other night, and the eternal question we all want to know came up:

Host: Ocean 96674 would like to know, Arnold, will there ever be another 'Terminator?'
Arnold: I think when there is a will there is a way. Everyone involved in this project wants to make it happen. I think it could happen. As long as they clean out the battle of who has the rights and how they share the rights, all those kind of things, I think they do another one. This is the process some of those people have to go through. Remember 'Total Recall' was around for 10 years. Someone else wanted to make it and five other directors wanted to make it. Eventually it ended up in our hands. We went down to Mexico and did 'Total Recall'. It was a huge hit. Some movies just take a long time. I think 'Terminator' has taken a long time from the first to the second one. It would take a long time from the second to the third one. I hope that we can make another one. I'm ready for it. I think it's a cool character to play. Again, I can't wait to say, 'I'll be back.' You know?

October 11/September 26, 1999: More news on "Terminator 3"!

* Hollywood Reporter October 11, 1999
The long-in-the-works "Terminator 3" is moving a step closer to production. After months of wrangling over the project, a Japanese company has stepped in quietly to pay for producers Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar to start moving ahead with the project. Sources said Toho-Towa, along with an unnamed German firm, are funding development on the film.

* Corona's Coming Attractions September 26, 1999
... We promised a big scoop last week about a sequel the fans really want to see, and finally here it is: CA has learned that James Cameron now intends to write, produce and direct Terminator 3. Previous reports indicated that both Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron had been playing around with another chapter in the franchise that launched both of their wildly successful careers, but now we've been given information that states Cameron's intention to perform the same trio of roles he had on 1991's blockbuster Terminator 2: Judgment Day. CA has also been told that in addition to Lightstorm's Rae Sanchini, Mario Kassar and Andrew G. Vajna will also serve as T3 producers. All this comes from our scooper 'Turtle' who proved it to us by showing documentation of the above facts.

Unfortunately, that's all we know right now. Whether or not Schwarzenegger will play another T-800 or a different character, the details of the storyline, and when Cameron is supposed to start writing the script were unavaliable to Turtle. Oh, there is one other bit of information we do know: Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) is not involved with the project at this stage of its development, nor is Edward Furlong (John Connor) or Robert Patrick (who played the amorphous T-1000.)

Just last month our 'Skynet Spy' told us Cameron had a falling out with the producers, but now with today's report from 'Turtle' we're assuming things changed.

October 6, 1999: New movie for Linda!
Variety's Army Archerd reports that director Arthur Allan Seidelman's next project is "Sex and Mrs. X", a Hearst Entertainment movie produced by Ann Carlucci for Lifetime. Jacqueline Bisset stars as a famous Paris madam. Linda Hamilton costars as the magazine writer whose interview with the madam changes her life.

September 25, 1999: Birthday news!

Linda & Leslie are 43 tomorrow!
We all send them our best wishes.
Have a great day, ladies!

September 14, 1999: More "Terminator 3" news!

Daily Variety reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger said he'd be back.
The actor is in going to reprise his cyborg role in a third instalment of the Terminator, with James Cameron planning to write and produce the movie.
No deals have been signed, but enthusiasm is high. Cameron is not planning to direct.

August 25, 1999: Will "Terminator 3" finally happen?

Cinescape West Coast editor Beth Laski interviewed Arnold Schwarzenegger recently for a profile in an upcoming issue of the magazine. The muscle-bound megastar discussed what's on his plate at the moment -- and, as usual for the Austrian-born actor, he's looking at a heaping helping of film projects.

"Harvey Weinstein at Miramax is developing Total Recall 2, and I have been to many meetings on it. The story is being written," Schwarzenegger told Laski. "The True Lies 2 story is being written. Terminator 3 is being done, although with that one there are rights issues like [James] Cameron has with Spider-Man. The business things have to get done before we can move forward. Doc Savage is being written. All these projects are in development."

Well, we at LHOW just hope that "Terminator 3" finally will happen... with Linda, of course!

July 24, 1999: Vote for Linda!

Plans are well underway to bring the novel "From Potter's Field" to the big screen and although this site has no official connection with the production, the author has publically asked for fans to suggest who might play the lead role.
The role in question is the lead character, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, in the series of best-selling novels by Patricia Cornwell. Anyone who has read one of the "Scarpetta Novels" will understand how *perfect* Linda would be for the role.

Please vote for Linda here!

July 14, 1999: Linda Hamilton to have a cameo in next 'Star Trek' movie?

RUMOR has it that Linda might have a cameo as a high ranking Starfleet officer in the next (Next Generation) 'Star Trek' movie.
We all know that rumors come up and vanish, and rumor has it as well that no (Next Generation) 'Star Trek' movie might happen at all as Patrick Stewart aka Captain Picard is becoming too expensive at least from the producers' perspective...
Anyway, the idea that Linda finally might join the 'Star Trek' universe is just cool, and maybe...

June 18, 1999: Linda receives "A" rating!

Entertainment Weekly (Issue June 18, 1999) shortly reviews Linda's reading of:

OTHERWISE ENGAGED

WRITTEN BY   Suzanne Finnamore

READ BY   Former Terminatrix Linda Hamilton

DELIVERY   Hamilton snaps out the thoughts of a soon-to-be-married 36-year-old ad exec with just the right mix of wit and desperation.

LISTEN FOR   The soon-to-be-ex-Mrs. James Cameron's wicked reading of the line "I enjoy hearing men sleep; it's a shame they can't do more of it -- and occasionally lapse into a mini coma."

THE LOWDOWN   Hamilton's confident tone lends substance to Finnamore's lilting prose.

Grade   A

May 28, 1999: Linda Hamilton attending Seattle Film Festival

"The Secret Life of Girls." Linda Hamilton, star of the "Terminator" movies, is in town for the world premiere of this comedy about a teenager whose schoolteacher father (Eugene Levy) has an affair with a student. The script has a few amusingly eccentric touches (with Levy around, how could it not?), but much of the movie plays like a failed sitcom pilot for television.
JOHN HARTL, THE SEATTLE TIMES, May 28, 1999.
